FUSED CAST BLOCK DIVISION

Excellent Quality Based on Four-Decades Experience

Owing to their high refractoriness and good corrosion resistance, fused cast refractory blocks are used primarily in the glass industry in the linings of glass melting furnaces.
They are produced from high purity raw materials, which are melted and poured into moulds to solidify.

MOTIM is one of the leading producers of the world of fused cast refractories and has more than 40 years of experience in development, production and application of such materials. Product quality of MOTIM is excellent and ensured by well trained and qualified staff giving a good basis of technological skill and innovation.
The R&D activities of MOTIM is backed up by the experience and technical resources of Hungarian institutes and universities.

Fused cast block production in MOTIM started in 1957 with the alpha-corundum type KORVISIT. Now, under the brand name KORVISIT-320 we offer an improved product which can be used with good results in the lower temperature zones of glass melting furnaces. Laboratory tests and operational experiences prove that corrosion resistance and bubble index of alpha-corundum is equal to alpha-beta-corundum.

Zirconia containing ZIRKOSIT fused cast refractory block production started in 1965.
In 1986, as a result of continuous developments in manufacturing process, MOTIM changed over to the application of oxidizing technology.
Produced by a patented manufacturing process of our own and sold under the brand name ZIRKOSIT-S and ZIRKOSIT-Y, these products have been accepted and applied with good results also by leading users in glass industry.

MOTIM's experts are aware of the vital importance of fused cast blocks in the construction of glass melting furnaces and their influence on operation and profitability. Hence we make every effort to give a quick efficient service of good quality products to our customers in the glass industry.

MOTIM assures the evenly good quality of its fused cast refractory products by operating a quality system established and certified according  to ISO 9002 standard. Our company is now working on the development and introduction of the environment management system (ISO 14000). This continuous activity forms the basis of our company's modern, consistent and controlled operation and guarantees quality of product for our customers.

Advanced Technology and Strict Quality Assurance System

Fused cast shape production is carried out in a controlled technological manner. For the first step a charge, mixed from controlled high purity basic and auxiliary materials is melted in an electric arc furnace. Then the melt is oxidized and poured into moulds suited to the final forms of the shapes. After a certain cooling period, moulds are opened and moulding material is removed. Following the necessary cleaning and finishing steps, the individually inspected blocks are preassembled. At this stage preassembled structures are checked often in the presence of the customers' representatives. After technical acceptance the blocks are packed in accordance with the place of destination and the shipping mode and delivered to the customer.
Marked up assembly drawings and photographs of the assembled structures are provided for the customer.

Compositions Adopted for Differing Applications

MOTIM produces fused cast refractory blocks with three different compositions.
KORVISIT-320 is an alpha-corundum type product which is recommended for installation in the lower temperature zones of glass melting furnaces by MOTIM. Due to its low blistering potential, KORVISIT-320 is ideally suitable for working ends and feeder channels.

ZIRKOSIT-S and ZIRKOSIT-Y are both AZS oxidised type refractory materials containing different amounts of alumina, zirconia and silica. High alpha-corundum and baddeleyite content ensure good refractoriness, while silica and low alcali content form a glassy phase which improves thermal shock resistance. MOTIM offer ZIRKOSIT-S blocks for sections of glass melting furnaces operating at higher temperature with ZIRKOSIT-Y being applied succesfully in the most exposed locations of glass melting tanks.
